7月の誕生花：ハス(蓮)/ Birth flower in July: Lotus!

今回は、7月の誕生花「ハス(蓮)」をご紹介します！
■　花言葉：「清らかな心」「神聖」
■　ハス科・ハス属
■　原産地：中国などのアジア熱帯原産地説、エジプト原産地説などがありますハスといえば、仏教。仏教では泥水の中から生じ清浄な美しい花を咲かせるハスの姿が仏の智慧や慈悲の象徴とされています。
またレンコンもハスの地下茎が肥大してできています。輪切りにすると穴が多くあいていることから「先を見通す」ことに通じて縁起が良いとされ、正月のおせち料理にも用いられます。
日本では茨城県、徳島県で多く栽培されています
■　長持ちさせるためのポイント
・夏場は茎が腐りやすくなるため、浅めの水に生けた方が長持ちします。
・気温が高いと水が汚れやすく、雑菌が繁殖すると茎が腐る原因になってしまうため、こまめに水換えをするようにしましょう。水換えの時には花瓶もきれいに洗ってください。少し面倒にも感じますが、花瓶の水を清潔に保つことは、暑い時期に花を長持ちさせるために効果的な方法です。

In Buddhism, the lotus is a symbol of Buddha’s wisdom and compassion as it blooms beautiful, clean flowers from muddy water.
The lotus root is also made from the enlarged underground stem of the lotus plant. When sliced into rounds, the lotus root has many holes, which is believed to bring good luck, as it means “to see the future,” and is used in New Year’s Osechi dishes.
It is also used in New Year’s dishes. In Japan, it is widely grown in Ibaraki and Tokushima prefectures.

In summer, the stems rot easily, so it is best to keep the plants in shallow water.
