12月の誕生花：ポインセチア/ Birth flower in December: Poinsettia!

今回は、12月の誕生花「ポインセチア」をご紹介します！
■　花言葉：「聖夜」「清らかな愛」
■　トウダイグサ科・ユーフォルビア属
■　原産地：メキシコ西部
ポインセチアは、クリスマス前に出回る真っ赤な姿が美しい植物です。メキシコ原産の高温乾燥の地域に自生している常緑低木です。寒い時期に出回る植物なのですが、実は寒さに弱い植物です。
■　楽しむポイント
・生ける時の扱い方のコツは、茎を切ると出てくる白い液体を水で流し取ってから花瓶に生けることです。白い液体をそのままにしておくと茎の管がつまり、葉まで水があがらないので注意しましょう。
・ポインセチアは寒さが苦手です。最低気温は10℃程を保ち、日中は日の当たる場所で、夜は冷え込む玄関や窓辺を避け、暖房器具の温風が当たらない場所で管理しましょう。

The poinsettia is a beautiful plant with a bright red appearance that comes out before Christmas. It is an evergreen shrub native to Mexico that grows wild in hot and dry areas. It is a plant that appears during the cold season, but it is actually sensitive to cold.
■Points to enjoy
The key to handling mums is to pour off the white liquid that comes out when you cut the stems with water before placing them in a vase. If you leave the white liquid as it is, it will clog the tubes in the stem and prevent the water from reaching the leaves.
Poinsettias do not do well in cold weather. Keep the temperature at a minimum of about 10°C (50°F), and keep them in the sun during the day, away from doorways and windowsills where it gets cold at night, and out of the warm air of heaters.
