10月の誕生花：ガーベラ / Birth flower in October: Gerbera

フラワーショップ風花では、通年様々な花をご用意して、皆様をお待ちしております！
今回は、10月の誕生花「ガーベラ」をご紹介します！
■　花言葉：希望、神秘
■　キク科・ガーベラ属
■　原産地：アフリカ、熱帯アジア
ガーベラは、17世紀後半に、南アフリカで発見された後、ヨーロッパを中心として品種改良が行われ、日本へは明治時代後期頃に渡来したと言われています。
品種改良により、八重咲きタイプや球状タイプなど2000種類以上の品種がつくられ、大きい物では手のひらサイズから、小さいものでは500円玉サイズのものまで多種多様です。その鮮やかで可憐な存在は、見る人を元気づけてくれる、今やフラワーショップにはなくてはならない存在になっています。
ガーベラの花言葉は「希望」、「神秘」です。また、ピンク色のガーベラには「崇高な愛」、赤いガーベラには「燃える神秘の愛」、黄色いガーベラには「究極の美」、オレンジのガーベラには「我慢強さ」などの花言葉もあります。

■　切り花を長持ちさせるためのポイント
・3日に一度水を替える：ガーベラの茎は、水が古くなってくると茎が腐りやすいので、古くなってきたら水を替えてあげましょう！
・少なめの水にする：水に浸かっている部分が多いと茎が腐りやすくなるので、水の量を花瓶の3分の1程度にすると、長持ちしやすくなります。
・茎が下を向いているときは、切り戻す：茎が元気のないときは、茎の切り口が傷んでいる可能性があります。水替えのとき等に、茎を3～5cmずつ短く切って活け直せば、水が通る管の入り口が新しくなり、新鮮な水が吸いやすくなります。
・水温を適温にする：ガーベラは寒さと暑さが苦手です。冬、気温が10度以下になると、萎えてしまう可能性があるので、少し気温の高いところに保管してください。反対に、夏の暑いときは、なるべく水の温度が上がらないようにして、茎を腐らせないようにすることが大切です。

After being discovered in South Africa in the latter half of the 17th century, gerbera was bred mainly in Europe, and it is said that it came to Japan in the latter half of the Meiji era.
By breeding, more than 2000 varieties such as double-flowered type and spherical type have been created, and there are a wide variety of varieties, from palm-sized for large ones to 500-yen coin size for small ones. Its vivid and lovely presence has become an indispensable part of the flower shop, which inspires the viewer.
The flower language of gerbera is “hope” and “mystery”. There are also flower words such as “noble love” for pink gerbera, “burning mysterious love” for red gerbera, “ultimate beauty” for yellow gerbera, and “patience” for orange gerbera.

■ Points for making cut flowers last longer
・ Change the water once every 3 days: Gerbera stalks tend to rot when the water gets old, so change the water when it gets old!
・ Use less water: Stems tend to rot if there are many parts soaked in water, so reducing the amount of water to about one-third of the vase will make it easier to last longer.
-Cut back when the stem is facing down: If the stem is not healthy, the cut end of the stem may be damaged. If you cut the stems into short pieces of 3 to 5 cm each and relive them when changing water, the entrance of the pipe through which water passes will be renewed, making it easier to absorb fresh water.
・ Adjust the water temperature to an appropriate temperature: Gerbera is not good at cold and heat. In winter, if the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius, it may wither, so store it in a slightly warmer place. On the other hand, when it is hot in summer, it is important to keep the temperature of the water as low as possible so that the stems do not rot.
