カーネーションは母の日の贈り物として切り花が使われることが多いですが、近年は鉢花もよく贈り物として利用されています。赤い母の日に贈る花として人気がありますが、それぞれの色に花言葉があります。
赤は「母への愛」。
白は「純粋な愛」「私の愛は生きています」。
ピンクは「女性の愛」「美しい仕草」「感謝」。
黄色は「軽蔑」。
紫は「誇り」「気品」。
青は「永遠の幸福」。
